Bi-Monthly Trail Days
The Wareham Land Trust's TerraCorps Service Member has been facilitating bi-monthly trail days. The location and focus of each event varies depending on greatest need. Highlights of completed projects this year include installation of benches at our Agawam River Trail and Tweedy & Barnes properties, installation of a welcome kiosk at Whitlock's Landing and the Red Brook Trail Network, invasive species removal efforts at the Onset Water District and WLT's Stoney Run - 600 Main Street property, and general trail trimming and maintenance at all our properties. Annual Monitoring and Stewardship of Current Properties
As an accredited land trust, we are obligated to monitor and report on the state of all of our properties on an annual basis. The purpose of this monitoring is to ensure the long-term ecological health of our properties and to ensure that the conservation values of each property are being protected. Regular boots on the ground also help WLT identify any potential issues or encroachments in a timely manner, so we can work to avoid or resolve the issue. With only one full-time staff person, the Wareham Land Trust relies on a network of volunteers to accomplish this important work.
We are always happy to have new stewardship volunteers join our team. Are you looking to get to know the land around you a little bit better? Do you live near one of our properties and want to help us keep an eye on it? If so, please fill out a volunteer interest form here. No prior stewardship experience is required! The 2023 annual monitoring effort is just wrapping up this November, but we are shifting to a spring monitoring schedule beginning in 2024. This means our next round of monitoring will take place between March and May of 2024. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the Stewardship Coordinator at info@warehamlandtrust.org.
