Minot Forest

Minot Forest

A Community Forest for Exploration, Education, and Wildlife Habitat

Minot Forest is one of Wareham’s most accessible and well-loved natural areas. Located in the heart of town, this large public woodland offers miles of walking trails, opportunities for outdoor learning, and critical habitat for native plants and animals.

Co-managed by the Town of Wareham and cared for in partnership with the Wareham Land Trust, Minot Forest is both a recreational resource and a conservation priority.

A Living Landscape

This forested area includes pine and oak uplands, pockets of red maple swamp, vernal pools, and scattered glacial boulders that hint at the region’s ancient history. Wildlife commonly seen here includes songbirds, deer, amphibians, and various insects and pollinators. The forest provides natural benefits to the community, including clean air, water filtration, and carbon storage.

Minot Forest is also a place where generations of Wareham residents have learned, explored, and connected with nature. Its proximity to local schools makes it a valuable resource for environmental education and youth engagement.

Trail Experience

Visitors will find a network of intersecting trails that vary in length and difficulty. The trail system is ideal for:

  • Walking, running, or peaceful reflection in nature

  • Birdwatching and seasonal wildlife observation

  • Educational outings and family walks

  • Forest-based learning for local schools and scouts

Trails are mostly flat but may be muddy or uneven depending on the season. Trail markers and signage help guide visitors, and new improvements continue to enhance access and safety.
