We are excited to announce the opening of a new nature trail at Marks Cove Vista, the Wareham Land Trust’s latest acquisition. Spanning nearly the entire 200 ft width of the property, this path is distinguished from our other trails by its coating of fine gravel along its entirety, granting easy access for those with mobility impairments and making it our first wheelchair-accessible nature trail in Wareham. Come take a walk with us!
The trail starts off at the gravel parking lot. From there, the path passes under the oak trees, and in just a few steps one is transported away from the local development into a green forest. The area feels notably secluded, despite the closeness of the road. The trail then opens up to a small clearing surrounded by a mix of pine and oak providing ample space for a small group to enjoy together. At the end of the trail awaits a bench, paid for by local fundraising. There, you can rest and enjoy the breathtaking view of Marks Cove Conservation Area, the salt marshes, and the blue mouth of the Wareham River. Please note there is no water access at this property due to the fragile salt marsh.
As a nonprofit organization, this acquisition would not have been possible without our partners. In particular, we thank the Community Preservation Committee, the MA State Conservation Partnership Grant program, the L.Knife and Sons Charitable Gift Fund, the Stifler Family Foundation, and too many local residents to name individually for their extremely generous support, as well as Town Meeting voters who approved funds for this project through the Community Preservation Act. We also note that the property is still being worked on, and additional upgrades will take place in the coming months. In the meantime, we hope that all visitors, regardless of mobility, will use this trail as an opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty Wareham has to offer!
Marks Cove Vista is located at 120 Cromesett Rd and is open to the public for passive recreation.
