Agawam River Trail

Agawam River Trail

A Riverside Pathway Through Wareham’s Natural and Cultural History

The Agawam River Trail offers a scenic walk through riverfront forest, wetlands, and open glades along about 8 acres along the banks of the Agawam River. Tucked behind Wareham High School and adjacent to residential neighborhoods, this hidden gem provides easy access to nature right in the heart of town.

With a gentle, well-marked trail and interpretive signs along the way, the Agawam River Trail is ideal for individuals and families looking to enjoy a peaceful stroll, observe wildlife, or learn more about the river corridor's ecological and historical importance.

A River Worth Protecting

The Agawam River is part of Wareham’s rich natural heritage. It supports herring runs, freshwater wetlands, and shellfish beds further downstream in Buzzards Bay. The surrounding forest helps filter runoff, cool the water, and provide habitat for birds, amphibians, and native plant species.

By protecting this land and maintaining public access, the Wareham Land Trust and its partners ensure that residents can continue to enjoy and appreciate the river while helping safeguard its health for future generations.
